3 Reasons Why Your Website Isn’t Working

Millions of websites do not work. They don’t attract visitors or make sales. And people who do come to the website leave quickly.

Is your website one of them?

Are you happy with the performance of your website? Are you getting the leads and sales you expect from your website?

If not, you may be wondering why and what you can do about it. There are dozens of possible reasons why your website isn’t working. In this article, I’m going to focus on three of them.

Fixing a website

Reason #1: Written Content Is Not Persuasive

One major reason why your website isn’t working may be because the written content is not persuasive. You have 8 seconds to convince your visitors to stay or they’ll be gone.

When visitors land on your website, they’ll quickly skim what they see to determine if you have the answer to their problem. If it looks like you don’t, they’ll try somewhere else.

That’s why it’s important to have an attention-grabbing headline and engaging content at the top of each page that focuses on the customer.

You need to show them you have what they’re looking for, that you have the answer to their problem. Then that content needs to persuade them to do something like download a free report, contact you, or make a purchase.

Professional copywriters are trained in persuasive writing to get visitors to take an action. Most website developers aren’t trained in persuasive copywriting. So if a professional copywriter didn’t write your website, most likely, it’s not performing as well as it could.

Reason #2: It’s Hard to Read the Text

Your website is hard to read. Do you use a light gray font like this: Is this easy to read? Or do you use a small font like this: Is this easy to read? Or do you use a very thin font or some wacky font that’s hard to read?

If people get frustrated because they have trouble reading the content, they’ll leave.

Make sure you use a standard, easily readable font. The color of the text should be in sharp contrast to the background. The best is having black text on a white background. Also make sure text on any pictures or graphics is easily readable.

Reason #3: It’s Hard to Get Something

You make it hard for visitors to get what they want. If they have to go through 10 pages to buy something, they’re not gonna make it.

Or maybe you offer them a free report. But to get it, you ask them for their blood type, the name of their great-great-grandmother, and the capital of Kazakhstan. They’re not gonna do it!

I’m exaggerating here, but the more information they need to provide, the less likely they’re gonna respond. Keep it simple! Less is better.

  1. Nice post. I learn something totally new and challenging on websites I stumbleupon on a daily basis. It will always be interesting to read through content from other writers and use something from their websites.
