Website Content Audit

Your website could be earning thousands of dollars more!

What if your website started to bring in thousands of dollars more in sales every month? Every week? Every day? Imagine how would that affect your business!

Unfortunately, many websites today are not performing as well as they could. Why? I can cite many reasons, but mostly it boils down to the fact they’re not following website content best practices.

Studies show that websites that follow best content practices attract more visitors and generate more sales. This is essential in today’s business climate where more and more people are shopping online. You need the best website possible.

So, how do you know if your website follows best content practices? Request a Website Content Audit.

With a Website Content Audit, you can discover why your website is not working as it should. Then you can take concrete steps to address those issues. Soon your website will be a valuable asset, attracting visitors and increasing sales.

What is a Website Content Audit?

A website content audit evaluates the strength of the content on your website. Your website could score a 10 on the Wow! factor for appearance, but if it scores a 2 on content, then you’re losing customers. Well-written, persuasive content is the key to turning visitors into clients and increasing sales.

The content on your website should be:

  • Clear
  • Well-written
  • Easy to read
  • Persuasive
  • Interesting and inviting
  • Customer-focused
  • Leading the visitor to a strong call to action
  • And more (I can’t give away all my secrets!)

A website content audit also evaluates the navigation and appearance, it checks for broken links… and more. I use an 84-point checklist divided into 21 categories of best website content practices to evaluate your website.

This forms the basis of my 12-15 page report which includes:

  • The 84-point checklist so you can see how your website compares
  • Strengths (your website is doing well here!)
  • Weaknesses (areas to improve your website)
  • Screenshots of your website noting strengths and opportunities for improvement
  • Where you rank in Google search results for certain keywords and phrases
  • How your competitors’ websites are ranking in Google
  • What to do to rank higher in Google search results
  • How your website looks on cellphones and tablets

And answers questions like:

  • Is your website meeting your company’s goals?
  • Is website content meeting your visitors’ needs and expectations?
  • Is website content persuasive, interesting, and inviting?
  • Are there clear calls to action?
  • Is your website accessible to people with disabilities?
  • Is it user friendly?
  • And much, much more.

Frequently Asked Questions

I spent thousands of dollars getting my website built. Why isn’t it working?

That’s what we’ll find out with the website content audit. For example, if your website is several years old, it may need to be updated. What worked in the past may not work now. Your website developer may not be trained in writing persuasive content. He or she can build you an awesome looking website, but if it has poor content, it’s not going to work well. Some website developers like to show off their talent and include a lot of bells and whistles. But this can negatively impact user experience and turn people off from browsing your website. I can list dozens of other possible reasons why your website isn’t working. Request a website content audit to find out why.

Why should I pay money for a website content audit?

How much is a working website worth to you? If your website could increase your sales, what is that worth to you? A website content audit will give you a strategy on how to improve your website. I have been certified by the American Writers & Artists Institute as a Website Content Audit Specialist. See my certification here. So if your website is not living up to your expectations, you can be confident I can help you figure out why and what to do to improve your website.

Will a website content audit actually generate more sales for my business?

Yes, if you update your website following the recommendations in my report, then you should see an increase in sales. However, I cannot guarantee an increase in sales as there are many factors outside of my control, like the quality of products and services you provide, your business reputation and operation, changes in search engine algorithms, your competition, among other things. But the website content audit itself won’t actually generate more sales for your business, it will only give you a strategy on how to improve your website to generate more sales.

Do you need my password to access the back end of my website?

No, I don’t need to access the back end of your website. I conduct my audit by viewing your website as any visitor would view your website.

Do you audit the code behind my website?

No, I don’t audit any code. I only audit your website by viewing your website as any other visitor would.

Is it possible my website isn’t working because of bad coding?

Yes, it is possible. But please know that specialists who audit website code usually are not trained in auditing website content. The code could be perfect, but if the content is poor, your website still will not be working as it should. But even if there are some problems with the code, if you just improve the content on your website and address the other issues in my report, your website will work much better.

Do you audit every page on my website?

No. I only audit the five main pages on your website: Home, About, Contact, plus two other main pages (usually your services/products pages). Any issues I note on these pages will most likely be found on your other pages as well. And since people visit these five pages most frequently, it’s important to optimize these pages first. By optimizing these five main pages, your website will work better. But I can audit additional pages for an additional fee.

Do you fix any issues or problems you see?

No. An audit is like an evaluation. It gives you an overall view of the effectiveness of your website. But you can use the report to develop a clear strategy on improving your website.

Can you fix any issues or problems you see?

Yes. If you need to update or improve the content on your website, I can do that for an additional fee. But if you need to fix other issues like broken links or design problems, then you will need to consult with your website developer. Or for an additional fee, I can consult with him or her on your behalf.

I know the content on my website isn’t good. Can you just update the content for me without doing a website content audit?

Yes, I would be happy to. Feel free to contact me so we can get started, or click here to learn more about my website writing services.

Any other questions? Please contact me. I’d be happy to answer them.
